A Stitch in Time ~~ is the New Challenge at Shopping Our Stash

Challenge #262 at Shopping Our Stash is A Stitch in Time ~~ do you remember the rest of the old quote? I do and it's "saves nine".  Last year I bought a Dressmaker sewing machine at a yardsale but never used it, so since the challenge is to sew on your project, machine stitching , faux, hand stitching, cross stitch, whatever you would like to do on your project. Since it was my first try with the little sewing machine I only stitched around the patterned paper and looking at the pictures I think the tension needs adjusting, I also hand stitched a button on the card.

In case you think you have seen this sketch before.....you have......it's the sketch from the current Jingle Belles Rock challenge.  It is overcast here at the lake today so I decided to take the picture at the breakwall which is across the road from the lane to our cottage. The stamp is from inkadinkado and I've had it a long time.

Close up of the stitching and button

Finished inside using a few scraps, even the snowflake is a scrap. I must remember to bring more Holiday sentiments with me it seems it is the only one I have here.

R is for Resist ~~ Challenge #64 at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers!!!

Another fine challenge brought to you by The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers!!! R is for Resist!!! There are a lot of resist techniques out there.....crayon resist, glue resist, watercolour resist, chalk resist, versamark resist, emboss resist and I'm sure there are more. I decided one resist technique wasn't enough I tried two. The first one is Emboss Resist which I found on Stamp TV

To start off with I didn't have clear embossing powder with me at the cottage because I thought it was already here but I had white which is what I went with, in the video at Stamp TV memento inks were used with daubers, guess what I left home? yup the daubers and my coloured memento inks.  Well as I'm used to not having all my equipment here I used TH distress inks and bought sponges at the $$store when we were in town.

Close up of the white embossing powder on the image from the Artful Stamper

Since the sun hasn't come around to the deck yet I took the cards to the break-wall to take pictures.

Okay now on to the second resist technique,~~ Versamark Resist

Sorry the picture isn't as good as it should be, my camera kept shutting off "yapping" I need to change the batteries, but I kept plugging away. I am not sure who or where I saw this technique obviously I didn't save it,  I started with shiny paper, using another silhouette stamp from the Artful Stamper, I stamped in versamark watermark and allowed it to dry a couple of minutes then brayered TH tumbled glass distress ink over and over and over the image. Because it was very flimsy I layered it on a scrap of white and one of green and elevated it on the Walmart patterned paper and on a base. I thought it needed a little something more (as always) so added the silver dazzlers thin line border stickers from Hot off the Press.

Close up of the image.

Wow you made it to the end of a picture loaded post I hope you will try a new Resist technique, tell us what one you used and add it to the SoSS blog.  check out which resist techniques the rest of the design team have done.

Thanks for visiting and have an awesome day!!!

Merry Sketch-mas is the challenge at Jingle Belles Rock

I love a good sketch!!! Jingle Belles Rock have a good one this challenge, follow the sketch but make it a Holiday card. I check out the blog on Friday when it posts so I brought a few holiday stamps with me to the cottage, I am doing most of my crafting there as when I get home I seem to have lunches and appointments and just general running around.for the 4+ days every two weeks. Here is my take on the sketch.

I stamped and coloured the Hero Arts "car with tree" and fussy cut it out, Not sure you can see it but I put acetate behind the windows, The wreath circle is also from Hero Arts "wreath of leaves" stamped twice with two different green distress inks. The lace I found this past weekend at a yardsale.

Finished inside of the card with a scrap of patterned paper and a sentiment

It's Tuesday!!! Time for a New Challenge at Shopping Our Stash!!! "You Are Matchless"

Challenge #261 at Shopping Our Stash is You Are Matchless ~~ Create your own Matchbook or Matchbox any size any shape. I have made them before to fit some small chocolates, the were very simple so I wanted to do something with a little more work, since while I was trying to make them I wasn't feeling up to par, I seemed to be a tad dizzy so everything had to be right in front of me on the table, bending over the cuttlebug wasn't an option. I googled some tutorials and I used One Crafty Writer's tutorial but I used measurements from another I looked up, my base was 3 X 8.5, I might just give the smaller size a try though. I made two the same and here they are.

The patterned cardstock I bought at Walmart before I retired 15 years ago, probably before I really got into cardmaking a lot but it was on sale and I loved it, I have use this pattern a lot and it was a scrap left from a birthday card. The flower and leaves were cut from scraps with Stampin'up's Botanical Builder dies. I added 15 scraps of computer paper for the notepad, I might try 20 next time.

Close-up of the front.

The inside of the cover stamped with a sentiment from Impression Obsession

I made these with some challenges in mind:

Inspired by Our Bedding? Another Fabulous Challenge at Shopping Our Stash.

Challenge #260 at Shopping Our Stash is Inspired by our bedding, so take a look at your sheets, duvet, quilt or afghan and make a project that reminds you of it.  Remember last year inspired by your shower curtain it's the same deal,  Now of course my bedding isn't very pretty although I have really neat striped sheets but  I have a house and a cottage and both have quilts on them and it was a toss-up which I wanted to use so here is what I decided.

Sorry about the bad pictures, I left my camera at home and had to use my playbook to take pictures of my card. The light blue is paisley patterned paper to match the quilt block. Now here is the inspiration picture.

this is the square I used as my inspiration and here is the full quilt.

My daughter brought this quilt back from Tennessee for me it is perfect for the cottage.

Finished inside of the card.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out what the rest of the design team's bedding looks like. As always a really fun challenge. If you enter the challenge don't forget a picture of your bedding you are using for inspiration.

What's Great about Saturday? A NEW Challenge at The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers!!

Okay the weekend is another great thing about Saturday too but the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers has a new challenge ~~ B is for Booze. Let's see some great ideas for this challenge. Well my plan didn't fare well, the image I printed didn't make the cut when I started colouring with my copics, the black printer ink smeared, but my sentiment was still good. It's always good to have a back up plan when you are away from home stamping grounds, so went with plan "B".

Art Impressions stamp "girlfriends" coloured with copics and cut with a stitched ovals die elevated on Garden Party from Pebbles patterned paper and Daffodil Delight, sentiment computer generated.

Close-up of the sentiment

Computer generated sentiment I adapted from a quote I found on Pinterest, just because I wanted to be a bit Snarky!!

Jingle Belles Rock the Ombre Christmas

Lauren and Stephanie have really tested me this week, for one thing I didn't really understand the ombre thing but both their cards looked cool. I decided to go with Stephanie's look of the colours of the tree in the picture. I knew to do this I had to get out the distress inks (should have taken the markers to the lake instead) but it worked out fine with my second attempt. I have never attempted anything like this before, in fact my daughter saw the finished card and said " I would have never thought you made it". My son on the other hand asked me if it was a "rainbow" tree.  Oh well judge for yourself, did I pass the test that the Jingle Belles Rock gave?

The music background is from a book I bought at a yardsale, the oval and layer is crumbcake stamped with woodgrain background stamp using versa fine sepia a few gems and a bit of ribbon.

Close up of the watercoloured tree, it was the first time with this technique using a watercolour brush
Yes there are cat hairs on the tree, I will brush them off before I send it.

Inside of the card, it had  a slight mishap when a gust of wind came up and knocked it off the easel and on to the deck, I hope it will press out, I didn't want to take the time to try, I just wanted to get the picture taken.

Fluffles and the Present

Well I had a good day today finishing up some images I coloured on the weekend, too hot to sit on the beach, the laptop doesn't like working if I go to a time suck like facebook and golf on tv...what a line-up so I coloured. Of course I'm working on my Holiday Card stash and I was amazed at all the great challenges out there. Today I found Stella Says sketch challenge, I haven't entered Catch the bug challenges for a while, I didn't use a Bugaboo image as I didn't print any off while I was home last week.

..

Adorable little fluffles (they are all retired now) from Stampendous, sketch from Stella and patterned paper from American Crafts (Holly Jolly)

Close up of Fluffles.

Finished the inside with a scrap of patterned paper and a sentiment from Stampablities.

Shopping Our Stash #259 ~~ Say What??!

Another week has flown by, Canada celebrating Canada Day on Friday and the U.S. celebrating Independence Day on Monday, lots of fireworks and fun so now it's time for a new challenge at Shopping Our Stash ~~ Say What??! we want to see a speech bubble on your project. After the last few challenges this one seems easy peasy, the hardest part is finding the perfect sentiment to fit in the speech bubble die (if you have any). Here is what I came up with for the challenge.

The image is from Art Impressions ~~ the oldies, the sentiment is also AI and from Just Say It.

Love this sentiment, I used a speech bubble die (retired) from Stampin'up

The simple sentiment on the inside is from Penny Black and it's one of my favs.

ABC Christmas challenge 2016 ~~ M is for Mice

What a great challenge blog ABC Christmas Challenge 2016 is, I love the ABC part and have entered a few challenges, I sure could have entered every day I have enough Christmas house mouse stamps but alas I only got one done and there is only 21 hours left to enter too.

The stamp I used is from House Mouse Designs and called Ski Run with Amanda.
I used the sketch from Sketch Saturday and turned it horizontal

I really shopped my stash for things on this card, The snowflakes were in a circle and I took some of them to make this design, the bottom circle was cut from a scrap of patterned paper  and I just had to use that cute snowman brad from Eyelet Outlet.

More scraps used, the "gently falling" embossed background was also in a scrap bucket and I used the cut off for the inside.
